Vintage French L'Heritier-Guyot Ceramic Frog Ashtray Dijon Green Tobacciana

A striking vintage L’Héritier-Guyot ceramic frog ashtray, produced as an advertising piece for the famous Dijon liqueur house, best known for its crème de cassis.

Dating from around the 1950s–60s, the ashtray is moulded in the shape of a frog and finished in a very rich green glaze, with L’HÉRITIER-GUYOT DIJON lettering around the bowl.

The frog became associated with L’Héritier-Guyot following its 1950s advertising campaign and the slogan “Laissez l’eau pure aux grenouilles” (“Leave pure water to the frogs”), a playful response to the growing popularity of mixing cassis with water.

Originally produced as a promotional piece for cafés and bars, it is a great example of mid-century French advertising ceramics.
