Antique Hobday Candle Snuffer

This 19th-century Hobday’s Patent candle snuffer marked “Hobday & Co, London, Patent”, featuring a hinged snuffer box and ornate scissor-form handles.

The piece is decorated with delicate bird motifs, reflecting the Victorian fascination with naturalistic ornament and finely detailed domestic objects.

The aged metal surface has developed a rich patina over time, enhancing the sculptural quality of the object and its sense of history.

Originally designed as a functional candle snuffer, it now reads as a decorative object — equally suited to a mantel, shelf, or cabinet of curiosities arrangement.
