Lovely antique Napoleon III bread basket in black lacquered papier-mâché with beautiful gold Chinoiserie decoration. The oval shape and softly scalloped edge are finished with a gilt trim, and the center features a typical Asian-inspired scene with figures and landscape details in gold on a deep black background.

French, dating to the second half of the 19th century (circa 1850–1870). A wonderful decorative piece that can be used as a bread or fruit basket, on a console or coffee table, or displayed as part of a layered, collected interior.

In very good antique condition, with well-preserved colour. Light age-related wear to the gilt edge.
