Napoleon III Chinoiserie Picture Frame with Silver Leaf

This rare Napoleon III-style picture frame features intricate moulding, adorned with Chinese characters and landscape motifs, making it a unique piece. The throat of the frame has been partially gilded with silver leaf using the tempera technique, and the silver sections are varnished with mecca, giving them a rich, golden appearance. It can be displayed either by hanging on the wall or standing on its own.

Condition: Overall, the frame is in excellent condition, with its original glass and back, and only a minor flaw: the fabric holder for the back support is broken. However, the frame itself remains structurally sound and securely holds pictures in place.
